This year I was particularly excited for Halloween. After five years of apartment living, this was our first year in our house and our first year with trick-or-treaters. To mark this momentous occasion we threw a party. We had some pretty impressive guests in the mix including: Superman, Lois Lane, Minnie Mouse and T-Pain.
Justin Timerlake and Andy Samberg made appearances as well.
Since we timed the party to start during trick-or-treating it also coincided with dinner time. Instead of cooking a big meal we went with heavy appetizers. There was pulled pork, mummified pigs in a blanket, buffalo chicken dip, chips, salsa, guacamole, cheese, crackers, veggies and hummus. For dessert we had mini pumpkin muffins and pumpkin chocolate chip cookies. We also made a big pot of mulled cider served with a bit of spiced rum – this made the house smell incredibly festive.
Many of the serving bowls above as well as the platters, white dishes, dutch oven and cheeseboard were wedding gifts. It’s been so much fun to use our gifts and it makes hosting so much easier.
I was impressed with the number of trick-or-treaters who stopped by. We nearly ran out of candy! On Monday I heard from so many people that they had far fewer trick-or-treaters than most years. I don’t have anything to compare it to but it felt like a large number of kids and families for our small neighborhood. Did any of you feel that you had fewer visitors this year?
